In this beautiful rendition of Moon River, Courtney Atack, a single mother of five battling terminal brain cancer, sings about us all 'being after the same rainbow's end, waitin' round the bend...' She's hoping that you'll help find that rainbow's end for her friend Robin Adams-Hays—so that she can not only live without the daily torture of Lyme Disease but also dream and teach again.
When businesses, homes, and cities around the world were closing down, Robin Adams-Hays, Ph.D., made the brave decision to travel across the country to West Linn, Oregon. She left everything behind—her clothes, furniture, and a collection of shoes that had gathered dust from years of disuse—journeying all the way from Iowa to Oregon with nothing but a glimmer of hope that she might finally get better.
Inger Babcock prepared meticulously for Robin's arrival. Once an accomplished CPA, she lost over twelve years of her life to Lyme Disease. It was only after a supportive friend named Emily helped her with daily chores that she began to recover. Now, Inger plans to offer the same support to Robin in her remodeled daylight basement, joyfully named 'Emily’s Place.' Robin has been deeply affected by Lyme Disease for the past decade, just two months after earning her Ph.D. in English Composition.
Inger can provide the home and care needed to ease Robin's suffering, but she can't cover all of Robin's medical bills. In our country, medical doctors are only permitted to provide 28 days of doxycycline; otherwise, they risk losing their licenses. This restriction makes naturopaths our only viable option for treatment, requiring us to pay for the costs out of our pockets. When Inger initially reached out to Robin earlier this year, she faced the challenge of persuading her to come, as Robin had nearly given up on living only two days before.
Why hopeless? (See www.emilysplaceTheOne.org/head-above-water). The suffering crosses into the inhumane, with treatment costs starting at a minimum of $25,000. Will you join Courtney in helping Inger breathe hope back into Robin Adams-Hays’ life?
