Those closest to patients living with catastrophic illness or injury may witness what clinicians do not always see: the losses that accumulate, the daily struggle to function, the fear of being dismissed, and the courage required simply to keep going.

Listening to patients and caregivers is not only an act of compassion. It is essential evidence. Their experiences can reveal what standard measures miss—and help us understand the loss of dignity and safety many patients face when pain is undertreated.

Through the work of Emily’s Place The One, Regina has spent six years witnessing the grave consequences of undertreated pain beyond the doctor’s office. She has seen patients and caregivers and families fall through gaps in care, often without their experiences being recognized, documented, or measured.

Now, Regina hopes to work alongside researchers, patients, caregivers, and key professionals to identify and measure the impact of undertreated pain that routine clinical data and current evidence based medicine fails to capture.
